Career Profile - Field Sales Representative

Dustin Warelis

Dustin Warelis always knew he wanted to combine work with travel.

After graduating from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography, he gained experience as a Field Engineering Technician travelling to worksites across the prairies.

It was then he realized that he also enjoyed working with clients and building relationships.

His current position combines the best of both worlds. As a Field Sales Representative with Tervita, a company that helps organizations minimize their impact on the environment, Dustin is responsible for building and maintaining satisfied clients across the province in the oil and gas industry.

“On a typical day, I reach out to potential clients in Manitoba and northwest Ontario, receive customer inquiries, quote work for waste pickups, make sales calls, as well as customer support,” said Dustin. “Once clients approve the project quote, I help coordinate the job and make sure the work is performed correctly.”

Being a Field Sales Representative has advantageous other than travelling, explained Dustin. “I get the opportunity to attend conferences and special events and have established a good network of people that I can consult with. I was able to join the Dream Factory Auction Committee and represent the environmental community at large.”

Dustin’s advice for students is to dream big and try new things. “You will continue to grow and discover other opportunities that pique your interest. Your career is really a great journey.”
